Forest Park Conservancy’s Day of Stewardship will attract 200 volunteers working on the Wildwood Trail in Portland, Oregon’s 5000 acre Forest Park; the largest old growth forest within a city’s limits. The Wildwood equals 30.2 of the Park’s 70 miles of trails and is a recognized National Scenic Trail.

Friends of the Inyo seeks support for volunteer trail maintenance along the popular Mt. Whitney Trail. Repairs to the upper 99 switchbacks to improve access, hiker safety and resource protection would be completed in partnership with the Inyo National Forest and American Hiking Society Volunteer Vacationers.

The project, a collaboration of the Grand Trunk Trail Blazers and the Town of Sturbridge, is to upgrade existing trails and create a universally accessible trail on the "Leadmine Mountain Property". This 826-acre ecologically and geologically diverse property has views of three ponds, an open meadow and glacial rock outcrops.

Lula Lake Land Trust is nearing completion of a connecting trail to Cloudland Canyon State Park. Additional funding is needed for signage, maps, and trailhead gates. The 12 mile trail will traverse beautiful mountain streams and terrain while granting access to wilderness recreation areas now closed to the public.

The Mahanoy Creek Watershed Association’s Bolich Hiking Trail Project along the Mahanoy Creek will provide area residents a venue for healthy outdoor activity. Exposure to the creek’s beauty as well as its thorns will help raise environmental awareness while developing watershed stewardship and providing numerous educational opportunities.

Step into Cuba will introduce recreational walking and hiking to an impoverished, tri-cultural New Mexico community. We have created walking groups, a volunteer group, walkways, trails, and will bring the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail to a nature trail and trailhead at Cuba’s St. Francis Park. Funds will be used to build and promote the trailhead, and support local volunteers.

The NCTA builds, maintains and protects the North Country Trail. This project will help purchase and deliver native sandstone barricades, installed by local volunteers to rehabilitate the trail for hiking in heavily impacted areas by illegal ATV use in Wayne NF in southern Ohio.

The North Country Trail Association proposes to construct a new section of outstanding quality foot trail overlooking the scenic Nemadji River valley in Wisconsin. Utilizing volunteers and other resources, up to 5.3-miles will be constructed on lands purchased by the National Park Service and the Wisconsin DNR.

The final impediment to opening six miles of rail to trail conversion is the decking of one last railroad trestle by volunteers. The Peak to Prosperity Passage of the Palmetto Trail features a park and the spectacular view from the Broad River Bridge, making this section the Trail’s crown jewel.

PATH will expand public trails along a 15-mile South Maui coastal corridor by constructing paths, restoring native plants, and installing signage about natural and cultural sites. We support trail stewardship and provide education to help preserve one of the most heavily used and ecologically impacted areas in Hawaii.

Using volunteers, RTA recently began the process of clearing/developing this multi-use, non-motorized trail. Trail will offer improved access,safety to users, connecting the community of Ramona’s local park to the Cleveland National forest. Providing clear trail access will reduce intrusions into the watershed, avoiding potential environmental damage.

The peaceful, hiker-only trail from Alberta Falls to Lake Haiyaha in Rocky Mountain National Park is a visitor favorite, traversed from a very accessible trailhead. The park designated this trail a priority project because of its concerns with hiker navigation and safety on the latter, unimproved part of the hike.

SAFC will perform 350-400 hours of volunteer trail maintenance on and build public support for the permanent protection of the Fires Creek Rim Trail system in western North Carolina. The Rim Trail connects to the Appalachian National Scenic and also connects to the 137-mile Bartram Trail.

Hikers will appreciate new trail signage and educational brochure at Line Creek Nature Area, managed by Southern Conservation Trust in Peachtree City, GA. This 70-acre "hidden gem" has three miles of hiking trails through wooded areas, past historical landmarks and along a rushing creek.

Wilson Peak, a popular Fourteener near Telluride, Colorado has been off limits to hikers and climbers since 2007 over liability and trespass concerns of nearby private property owners. The Colorado Mountain Club intends to restore legal public access to the peak by constructing new trail and restoring existing trail in Silver Pick Basin.

Our proposal aims to support our annual trails program in the Los Padres National Forest and Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency, which employs over 100 dominantly At-Risk youth from Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties to repair up to 50 miles of widely used trails each year.

The D&H Conservancy's goal is to create a 108 mile long trail along the towpath of the historic canal. Much of it is already open, much is not. This project bypasses several breaches and makes accessible 3.5 miles of beautiful hiking, connecting to a parking area.

V-O-Cal's Fernandez Ranch Trail Project will engage 200 volunteers to build 2 miles of trail in one weekend, creating public access in a newly preserved, spectacular, 702 acre ranchland near Martinez, CA. Since 2006, V-O-Cal has involved 1600 volunteers in building and repairing trails in Northern California.
